The Human Face of Technological Disruption

Shelly Alcorn, CAE, Alcorn Associates

Coming soon to an association near you: massive disruption in the professional lives of your members.

According to “Technology, Jobs and Automation,” a McKinsey and Company report, “the adaptation of currently demonstrated automation technologies could affect 50% of the world economy, or 1.2 billion employees and $14.6 trillion in wages. Just four countries—China, India, Japan, and the United States—account for over half of these totals.”

Every association must not only assimilate this new information, but plan to adjust and adapt. Think about it. An association member stands behind every technological disruption; when they look over, they need to see you standing with them.

This opening session will provide some of the tools you need to be ready for the next level of disruption.

• Use the two-curve framework to plot strategic shifts
• Smash mental models and learn how to unlearn
• Learn how to express the difference between incremental and exponential change

Selecting aNew Association Management System in These

Uncertain Times
Wes Trochlil, Effective Database Management

In the past year alone, more than 10 AMS vendors have taken some form of private equity investment. Four of the largest players in the market are now under one umbrella (and probably more since this was written!). In the midst of all this turmoil, what should you do if your organization is looking for a new AMS? There is a right way (and a lot of wrong ways) to identify and select the AMS that is right for your organization. Learn a time- proven process for helping you identify which association management system will serve your organization best. Determine what your organization needs, how to prioritize those needs, how to review the products available, and how to select the right system, especially in these very turbulent times. Walk away with solutions to these issues and more faced by associations of all sizes.

Leveraging Your AMS - Strategies Your Team Can Apply Tomorrow
Justin Burniske, fusionSpan

There's a saying around AMS implementations, "If people put half as much effort into operating their AMS as they do into implementing it, there would be a lot fewer organizations looking for a new AMS.” Organizations put all their energy into implementing a new AMS, only to see it fall flat because general staff are not properly prepared and motivated to leverage the AMS. By employing the strategy outlined in “Switch” by Chip and Dan Heath, you can change the trajectory of your AMS. It doesn’t matter if you're launching a new AMS in a month, if you’ve been in your system for a year, or if you’ve been working with the same AMS for a decade, we’ll discuss strategies that you can apply tomorrow. Have your own success strategies? There will be time for audience involvement so come ready to share!

Taming the Email Beast
Randy Dean, MBA, The E-mail Sanity Expert ®

Every day, managers and professionals are getting buried under a continuing stream of both useful and useless e-mail. Without a system for getting “control of the beast”, professionals spend much of their work (and personal) time spinning wheels and feeling highly unsatisfied. If you would like to get control of your e-mail “beast”, you should attend this program featuring specific tips for Outlook and Gmail users, but applicable to ANY e-mail user. Learn a proven system for taming your e-mail account, with strategies for keeping your inbox efficient and under control by building and administering a personal "e-mail processing system”. Learn how to get rid of all those “quick little” e-mails once and for all, prioritize your most important messages, and mitigate or even eliminate much of that annoying junk and spam. Finally feel on top of your e-mail and related activities, rather than feeling it is on top of you!
